Social Care in Camden

A Flavour of Social Care in Camden

As you’d imagine with a Council serving a population of over a quarter of a million in a relatively small area of the nation’s capital, Camden Council provides the widest spectrum of social care for its residents – for children and families, adults, the elderly, and safeguarding children, and all the varied and various specialist areas these require. You can see the scope of our work via the Council’s own website, available here.

We work both as sole provider and in partnership with various agencies in order to provide the highest quality and most appropriate care to what are often the most vulnerable people in our community. For instance, with regards to children and young people, we are part of the Camden Safeguarding Children’s Board, and the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). This active involvement in multi-agency work ensures that we can reach out and help the most in need, as well as enable us to constantly evaluate our own service provision and improve in line with (and beyond) guidelines and expectations.

And we don’t sit still in social care; the needs of our community are continually shifting, and we work to encompass these needs. The Greenwood Place Project is an excellent example of providing for shifting needs. This is expected to open in early 2018 and will provide high-quality services for people with dementia, learning disabilities and mental health problems, as well as offering new services for people with autism and for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, especially younger people coming through transition as it will also host Camden's first ever Centre for Independent Living (CIL).

Social Workers – thinking of joining us?

We know that Social Care isn’t the easiest of careers. It’s a vocation, a way of life, rather than just a job. It demands dedication, professionalism, clear sightedness, compassion, logic, calmness….society will blame you if anything goes wrong, but won’t thank you for the many times it all goes right. But the people you help and support will thank you, maybe with just a smile or a look, and you’ll know you did the right thing. When you put a family back together, make a child safe, find the best care for the elderly, the “job satisfaction” is off the register! And at Camden we have dedicated, professional and growing team of social workers who can testify to this. Our Social Workers join our team at every level, from first year NQSW through to senior. They’re supported in their jobs, and developed to advance their career, with opportunities to specialise in their chosen fields of care.

If you’re thinking of joining our Social Worker team, we welcome applications from every level, and offer support and training throughout your career with us, in addition to the excellent salary and benefits you’d expect from a London council.
